Belgian Grand Prix Secures Its Future: Spa-Francorchamps to Stay on the F1 Calendar Until 2031

Formula 1 has announced a multi-year extension with the Belgian Grand Prix, ensuring that the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps will host races in four of the next six seasons: 2026, 2027, 2029, and 2031.

This agreement introduces a rotational system, with the Belgian Grand Prix alternating with other venues in 2028 and 2030. The alternate venues for these years have yet to be confirmed, but potential candidates include other European circuits, as well as locations in Africa and Asia, as Formula 1 explores global expansion.
Spa-Francorchamps, built in 1921, is celebrated for its challenging layout, featuring famous sections like Eau Rouge and Raidillon. The circuit has undergone significant investments in recent years, including the addition of two new grandstands, increasing capacity by 10,000, and enhancements to off-track entertainment and the overall fan experience.

The 2024 Belgian Grand Prix attracted 380,000 fans over the race weekend, highlighting its popularity among spectators. The upcoming 2025 event is scheduled for July 25-27 and will feature the return of the F1 Sprint, offering fans an action-packed weekend.

Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed his enthusiasm for the extension, stating, “Spa-Francorchamps is rightly lauded by drivers and fans alike as one of the finest racetracks in the world and it has played host to some incredible moments over its many seasons in Formula 1.”

The rotational system reflects Formula 1’s strategy to balance its traditional European roots with the sport’s expanding global presence. Potential new venues in Africa and Asia are under consideration, aligning with Formula 1’s goal to reach new audiences and markets.
